TappigraphyTM – Pioneering research by analysing everyday smartphone touchscreen interactions to gain insights into cognitive status and neurological health.
The TapCounter app allows to collect seamlessly the precise timing of smartphone touchscreen interactions - in millisecond resolution. The tool enables measurements out of the lab and without the need for wearables or conducting tests or surveys, ensuring high adherence. The app is easy to install and does not show any data back to the user.
Bypass sparse cognitive testing in favour of comprehensive insights thanks to continuous measurement.
Overcome the limitations of lab environments and gain insights into real-world performance.
Participants do not have to complete any tasks or surveys and no wearables are required. Ensuring high user compliance.
Only anonymised data and no content is collected. Only study managers have the link between person and data.
Scientifically validated metrics are based on the work of renowned scientific institutions.
Study administrators can easily manage participants and results via a web tool.
The TapCounter app requires at least iOS 16.0 or Android 8.0.
The cost of conducting a study depends on the sample size and the duration of the study. We recognise that not all research is funded equally and are happy to discuss potential collaborations. We are interested in hearing your ideas. Please contact us for further details.
Please see our Non-commercial/Academic licenses section in the General Terms and Conditions.
Yes. We offer an SDK that makes it easy to integrate TapCounter's data collection into your own app.

The study manager distributes the unique IDs to all study participants and holds the de-anonymize keys to find the person-to-ID link. QA does not hold this link. The research manager is solely responsible for the usage of these keys.

Yes. The study manager can send the privacy policy together with the name of the relevant study to support@quantactions.com. All participants who sign up for this study have access to this policy in the app in addition to the QuantActions privacy policy.
1. Each researcher creates an account at taps.ai/register
2. The study manager contacts us at support@quantactions.com to link the accounts to your organisation and study and assign the appropriate user roles.
Study editor: Can view and modify the study, including assigning participation IDs to devices.
Study viewer: Can view the study but cannot make modifications.

Yes. You can find out how to instruct the user under Can I switch phone or use the app on a second phone too? in the FAQ for Android or FAQ for iOS.
If a user was able to install the TapCounter app, but the sign-up for the study fails for some reason, you can manually register a user's device on taps.ai. To do so,
1. Ask the user to send you their IDs.
You can find out how to instruct the user under How do I copy my personal IDs? in the FAQ for Android or FAQ for iOS.
2. The IDs you receive are formatted as follows:
Identity ID:f46b8b9d-1683-48f2-9081-64c8f5a9cda0
Device ID:47cf4972-3e6a-4e70-b071-61683f6200783.
3. Go to the relevant study on taps.ai, use the edit function in the Identity column and add the Identity ID.
All devices are aggregated by status for convenient filtering, e.g. by error.
Hovering with the mouse of the status badge (green/yellow/red/black) will show the rationale for the status.
Data download is prepared on request. Users will receive a notification via email with the download link, which takes a few minutes to a few hours depending on the size of your study.
The request can be made from the top-left side of the Participants table by clicking the three vertical dots. Select Data download request.
Study meta data can be downloaded from the top-left side of the Participants table by clicking the three vertical dots. Select Download study meta data.
